This 59km ride has a mixture of gravel and hard surface in the scenic backwoods and farm country of Calabogie. There are some fun sections of single-lane backwoods gravel lanes/roads. Free parking at Barnet Park, or, in Calabogie. There are public washrooms at Barnet Park. The pace will be civilized but note the distance and elevation of each ride. Each rider should carry their own tools. There are no convenience stores on the route. Carry all water and snacks. Parking: The posted ride finishes by going through Calabogie so it may be more convenient for people to park in Calabogie near the Redneck Bistro; but be aware that the rides are leaving at 9:30 am sharp from Barnet Park which is 2 kms from the Redneck Bistro. 59km route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36693893 I volunteered to be the leader/sweep as i was the only person that signed up for the short ride. The other 5 signed up for the long ride, but Rob Griffioen joined me at the parting of the ways as he had difficulty shifting into his lowest gear. Cool damp, overcast day with intermittent drizzle. Some of the ride was on the K&P rail trail, but it was variable, with nice smooth gravel here and there but some quite deep/waide puddles. One ATV passed us; not sure if they are a problem. likely not suitable for H to ride on. Hillier than expected, but very quiet with hardly any traffic. Crazy large rock painted to look like a St. Hubert rooster. Ice cream place in Burnstown closed, so had to make a detour to Scoops in Pakenham, where we went last week! Had top pay cash as I forgot my wallet. The long riders went to the Redneck Bistro for a coffee. Also made detour to check out the new payment arrangements at the Eagles Nest parking lot.
