Ice and artificial snow (the start and at least the last 30km) covered with a few cm of fresh snow, falling during the first half of the race. Tracks wiped out and what was left is very squirrely, particularly on the downhills. Almost as bad as the CSM, although long flat sections and the hills not as steep or narrow. A challenge with so many at the start (14,000+) and complete gridlock at the first hill (just stop go for half an hour, and took an hour to get into real stride). Lots of falls and broken poles, although I manage to escape both. Apparently the second toughest Vasa ever (tied with last year). They nearly cancelled it due to lack of snow, but it has only been cancelled 3 times (1932, 1934, and 1990). I don't plan to do this again, although with perfect conditions, 8 hours might be possible. Can knock this off the bucket list, unless we come back for the 100th in 3 years time...
