Lots of positives to write about here. Definitely what my training needed! I’ll definitely be ready for IMLP, where just like today I will focus on covering the distance and not worry about my pace.
Weather was kind of crazy. Kept getting “Gale Warning” alerts on my Edge, which requires me to clear it by pressing a button (while dealing with gale force winds!). Definitely felt some strong wind, notably Long Point Road where I had to lean toward the wind. And the wind direction was all over the place. Plenty of times I saw multiple flags in view and getting blown in different directions 🤷🏻♂️ .
Dressed perfectly for the conditions. Wore tights under cycling shorts, long sleeve shirt under long jersey, my reflective gloves and my yellow headband under my helmet. Chilly for the first two hours and warm by the end but not overheated.
As I entered Myles Standish I realized there was a ride going on. I was passing quite a few bikes and then a pair of riders caught up to me and I rode with them for a bit. They were doing the Best Buddies ride which has multiple distances but these 2 were 65 miles into a century that started in South Boston and ended in Hyannis.
They kind of envigorated me and I rode with them to their designated rest stop at College Pond. I rode around Fearing Pond then did my own rest stop at the park HQ (technically my century time was 6:02 because I paused my Edge for the 6 minutes I was stopped). They saw my aero bars and asked if I was a triathlete and I told them I was training for IMLP. The best thing about riding with them was when one said, “we sure lucked out with the weather today!” I was like, huh??🤷🏻♂️ But it was better than yesterday when it was in the upper 80’s! Put the ride into a different perspective because I was definitely not appreciating the weather for a long training ride in June until then!
One last note, I completed this century inside of one year of Dr. Evans giving me permission to put weight on my right foot!
