We awoke to a typical autumnal with a fine mist in the air.
After a huge breakfast at The Wheatsheaf we mounted our bikes and headed back to the site of Bramley Station to rejoin the Downs Link Trail. We continued south riding upon a tarmac surface with glimpses of the derelict Wey and Arun Canal on our left. About 1.5 miles on NCR22 left the trail which from here become NCR222 and the tarmac ran out with the surface becoming stonier. After a pleasant ride through woodland and open country we left the trail at Cranliegh to find a cup of coffee. Rejoining the trail we continued on through rolling countryside to Baynards Station which is now privately owned and the only restored station on the line. Unfortunately a high fence prohibits a view of the track side of the station. From here we had to leave the line of the railway to climb over the line of the closed 381 yard Barnards Tunnel. A steep descent took us back to the trail and on through Rudgwick. After crossing the Guildford Road the trail crosses the River Arun which is crossed by The Double Bridge which is the emblem of The Downs Link Path and we failed to notice.
