Ridgewood to Ossining Ride

This was my very first overnight bike trip. I rode to Ossining, NY, to visit friends and spent the night at their home.

Once I got to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx I got on the Old Putnam Trail which was mostly mud, roots, and half buried railroad ties. At the Westchester County line, though, it became the South Country Trailway, which was well paved and mostly flat or only very gently sloped. Excellent for riding. I stayed on it and the adjoining North Country Trailway most of the way up. The last few miles, from Briarcliff Manor to my destination, featured a few challenging hills - nothing too crazy, but enough to make those first few beers at the end tast GOOD.

All in all, an enjoyable ride.

    Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.

  • TCX History

    Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

    Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
