Friday
I slept better last night than all the other nights. I'm used to camping now and am constantly exhausted plus I was in a pretty secluded and from a can I be there perspective, good place. I put in my earplugs to block the insect sounds and was knocked out the whole night. I awoke around 4:40 am and was compelled to get up and do my business and since I felt rested I decided to pack up and go.
Since I took my time with it I didn't leave till around 6:30am. I got back on route by taking a detour around the high river Ford by way of some nice back roads up to and along i-40. I was really feeling pretty good overall and my spirits were high as it was the last day but my legs felt like reheated leftover asparagus. Just dead. But I rode pretty well considering and made good time despite the very hilly terrain.
I only needed one last DG stop for essentials and I set off for the last little push. The bulk of the challenge here was a long series of wma gravel roads that were really bumpy. I had noticed a ticking sound on rough terrain the previous day and couldn't find the source. Here I examined the bike and found the downtube bottle cage to be quite loose and my frame bag was really loose. Tightening these definitely helped but it was still there. I'll have to do a proper inspection at home to figure out.
The next 15 or so miles were really nice hilly pavement and I had so much fun on the descents. Uphills were slow but not too bad. I still felt okay despite all the soreness and fatigue. The remaining miles through Nashville were pretty pleasant as city riding goes, very easy and little stress.
I really enjoyed the trip overall and was pleased with how it turned out. The route was mostly spot on and very fun and I managed the weather challenges just fine. It felt like I was really out bikepacking somewhere for real again, if only for a week. Totals: 8 days, 932.6 miles.
