We made our own fun yesterday. Jim, Shawn & Tim rode from their houses. Jim would have the longest ride of the day, 114 miles. The rest of us in the neighborhood of 70 miles. We met Ray on Bouldercrest Road. The stop at the Buddhist Temple turned out to be a disaster. Apparently the peace-loving Buddhist keep junk-yard dogs. Hackles up and head down they came after us. Ray got bit. Later, on the big downhill, we hit 45'ish, depending on our respective tucks and weights. We rode by the Federal Pen, Grant Park, & Sopo Bikes. Craig made our lunch reservations at H Harper. It was an easy lunch w/ lots of craft beers & hamburgers. Benny Watson from Milledgeville joined our group. Afterwards we hit our obligatory dirt along the un-reconstructed Beltline, stopping briefly at Craig & Katherine's. Then through Krog tunnel angling over to Edgwood, then Peachtree. The Streets Alive event had Peachtree closed from the 5 Points MARTA station to the Rhodes house... miles. We got a little separated but managed to re-group before (what turned out to be) the sprint home. We witnessed Brian do the world's fastest tubular tire change in Clarkston. Jim says follow me and we followed the Pizza Ride route to Stone Mtn and then (what turned out to be) a little circuitous route out of Stone Mtn. A slight tailwind lifted our pace into the 20's the rest of the way home. Folks pealed off to their houses in Lithonia. Only Brian, Tony & I rode our cars at my house. What a ride. It is incredible to ride from our rural/suburban roads into the heart of Atlanta with it's completely urban riding and then return. It's an unmatched cycling experience.
