Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.

This was using both navigation and live logging. The live logging worked as people could tell where I was.
The navigation worked, mostly. Sometimes it didn't give me the audio cue until I was right at the turn or just past it. I had my phone in my pocked so I cannot comment on the visual cues.
I got off route a few times and sometimes it let me know and others it took a while to let me know. Once I was off course, there were really no audio cues to help me get back on course. There may have been visual cues, but I don't know.
All in all, I have an overall positive impression of these features and I may just sign up for the annual subscription after this month's expires.
For some reason, when I planned this route and rode it, I was thinking the total was going to be around 35 miles. I was surprised when I finished and it said almost 51 miles! No wonder my knees were starting to feel a little sore.
Had I realized it was 52 miles round trip, I am pretty sure I would not have done the ride. I am glad I didn't realize it!
Looking at the statistics you will see that my max speed was almost 82 mph! What a thrill!
However, in the sake of honesty, I searched the route out and found where that speed is shown. The GPS had some kind of glitch there and didn't track my correct path - it short circuited it a bit. I would be surprised if I exceeded about 35 mph.
I talked to Utah Trikes about making a tandem hitch for my trike so I can attach Daunell's to it. After some concern about the time frame for when it can be completed, they are going to construct one for me. The machinist said it is going to weigh about 6 or 7 lbs as a rough estimate. This will be the first one he makes for the USX. They have only done one for the other trike that is a bit different. It will cost about $300. That is a lot of money, but if it can help to get Daunell out more and on longer rides, it will be well worth it!
