Trek Farley 9.6. Mostly sunny, warm - in the 70's, Tough West/NW winds @ 9-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Started at the Wes Block trailhead just North of Freeport, rode up to Monroe and cut over to check out the Cheese Country Trail for a few miles then turned around and rode back.
Gorgeous day, trees along the trail blocked a lot of the wind but there was always a crosswind and it was full in the face on the Cheese Country trail. By the way, although biking is allowed on this trail, I got the impression it is not appreciated by the ATV/UTV crowd, at least on the weekends. I got buzzed a few times and one guy passed and then spun his wheels right in front of me - felt like he was marking his trail with gravel instead of piss... The short section I rode was bigger gravel, ok for a larger tire gravel bike and certainly ok on a fat bike.
While I have been told it is a rough trail in parts, down by Monroe its just basically a gravel road. I haven't met a road or trail yet that the fat bike can't handle. The terrain is hillier than the Badger Trail for sure. It would be fun to ride the whole trail up to Mineral Point, spend the night and go back - 2 day credit card tour - but it would be a long ride.
I saw a couple dozen bikers out at least and probably a dozen runners and hikers. One tree down but not a bad one and easy to navigate around. Good thing I backpacked plenty of water and some food, the planned stop was a gas station only - no store.
Even though the trail seems fairly flat, it's predominantly uphill all the way up to Monroe and its a lot of climbing overall. My average speed was 10.4 mph on the leg out, 12.5 mph on the return - I really had to push it at times with the crosswinds. Longest ride yet on the Fat Bike.
