Given that my road bike is out of commission for a few days, I decided to put in a mtn bike ride. I ended up going down the canyon and around to Meadow Brook park. It was fun. I had to adjust the saddle a few times and my knees required some getting used to the different saddle/pedal configuration. No heroics, no major climbs. Mostly modest uphill and downhills with a few steep sections sprinkled in there. Here are my observations of the course I rode. Getting to the train tracks was enjoyable and safe. Once there, I headed East. The trail merges with the train tracks. That's where I normally turn around or go back via a different route. This time, I wanted to see how far it went. There were a few sections of un-rideable conditions. IE, thick gravel. It was only a few hundred yards, then it turned to a compact, rideable trail. I ended up continuing east to see how far it goes. I got as far as downtown Tehachapi. The trail appeared to continue, but I ended up turning around. It felt questionably safe. I then found the route that goes to the Meadow Brook Park. I followed that trail, headed down Westwood and then made my way home. Ailments were right outer knee soreness on a few occasions when pushing the pace. IE, digging on the short, steep sections. Concentration was much different, mostly focused on keeping the bike on track and upwards. Other notes, I saw a guy driving a quad dirt buggy as I was making my way out West.
Other notes, gear worked well. The Gopro gave up at about 7 minutes from home. I forgot to change the battery from yesterday's scratched ride.
