I had lab today, so I got out later than usual. The weather was a bit cold upper 50s. I wore 1 base layer, knees and arms. The way out was a bit chilly. I made it to the top of the descent quicker than usual. I set out what I had originally planed. I did modest time on the descent. After that, I started the ascent in moderate tempo. I ended up taking of my knee warmers at the chavez monument. It was much warmer on the ascent. I met up with Roger less than a mile from there. It was good timing, because I got to the point where I wanted to increate the pace a bit. By that time, Roger was going at his own pace. When I got to the monument, I did a bit of a dig as I had planned. My legs felt good and no ailments at that point. From there, I did good tempo, but not scorching. My right leg was giving me mixed signals, it started to cramp a bit on more than a few occasions. Slowing down helped, but this is not looking good for the Spooktacular. The problem with this climb is there are few places to stretch while riding. My concentration was probably the worst of ailments. My mind just couldn't lock down on the ride at hand. Balance was so so, but I think the cold weather threw me off a bit. Bike and gear worked great today. I reseated the front wheel, and that seemed to take care of some clicking that I was experiencing on the past ride or two. So, it's going to depend on Saturday's ride to see if my legs have what I'm going to need to do the Metric. More to come...
