A very cold icy morning and a 5 mile warm-up ride to Magdalena Cafe where the people are friendly and the food is yummy. I filled water bottles at the library/museum and read southwestern ghost stories while electronic devices charged. After a few photos and quick-stop stops I spun my way 8 asphalt miles up the Old Magdalena Livestock Highway 60 to Old Highway 52 where I headed south another 15 miles before setting up another wonderful wilderness camp. This cosmically vast space is home to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. As the western sky turned fiery red, a sense of relief followed my entry into the Mt. Withington foothills and the cover of trees. All in all a spectacular day in this land cloaked in mystery and magic.
