One of the interesting aspects of brevets is that you never know whom you'll end up riding with. I did not wake up this morning expecting to finish with Nigel Press, but yet, here we are. I followed him around all day, except for the climb of Mount Baker itself, from Glacier WA to the top. No amount of drafting or pacing would have let me keep up with him up the mountain. To be clear, this was not Nigel riding at his usual speed: he was extraordinarily accommodating, adapting his pace and rest breaks to let me keep up with him. Still, following "slow" Nigel was an all-out effort and no trivial feat for me. In fact, I burned too many matches from Baker to the border trying to match his pace, such that my performance finishing on the Canadian side suffered quite a bit. At various part of the route, I also rode with Mike Gottlieb and Mike Hagen.
