Today was awesome, but a bit bittersweet. It’s my last ride in Switzerland! For now. I fly home tomorrow. 😭
I got to ride with my friend Matt Latham 🇸🇬 who happened to be in town, also with his bike, on the same day as me! I love it when a plan comes together, I feel so well traveled 😆
Buchenegg is a local favorite climb here, and it’s a pretty smooth 9% for not too long, unless you also follow this route, which takes you across a shortcut that tries to murder your legs with 20% pitches, lol.
Beautiful view at the top though! I loved it. When we came down the other, it was suddenly a painting of Switzerland - snow capped alps in the background with flowing green fields and Swiss farm houses in the foreground. Unreal 🤩
Heading out to Lake Ägerisee took us through some tiny farm roads with no one out there but us and some local farmers. Adorable children playing in yards, cows mooing, and flies constantly trying to bother us, overall it was a pretty surreal and quintessential experience.
Not as much climbing here, but on the descent is where we saw our first view of the lake, and it was mesmerizing. There’s a bench out there that we just perched ourselves on and didn’t move for a long while. Again, just amazing.
At the base of the view by the lake itself, we got some hot dogs that were served up a little like a corn dog, along with some more fluids. It was a hot day after all! A little mini golf spot next to a part of the lake where we saw more people outside enjoying the sun.
When we got moving again, we had a series of fantastic descents, all of which were just 👌 so fast, so fluid, just great fun! And we got back into Zürich in record time, it was rad.
Anyways, it was a great way to end the trip. Social, fast, climbing, a beautiful lake, and I don’t feel destroyed after this much riding. Strava actually shows me at a higher fitness score here than I’ve ever seen it for me, so that’s fantastic.
Really makes me wonder what I’m doing still working for The Man 😁
Who knows what the future holds for me, and part of this trip was to evaluate a potential future here for us, but regardless, this was a fantastic trip, completely self arranged and supported! If anyone needs or wants some insights or tips on how I did all this, just reach out!
Thanks for listening and auf wiedersehen!
