Saw a similar ride on the Portland Bike Club web page and decided to give it a try. Start from Lewis and Clark Park in Troutdale. Nice 2.5 mile warm-up to the Stark St. bridge, then a steady climb into Springdale. A few more short climbs on Hurlbert Rd to the 4-way intersection for Gordon Creek Rd. The real climbing started at Louden Rd. Around 900 feet elevation gain in 3.5 miles on Louden Rd, with a long stretch of 10-11% grade. After a short, downhill on Deverell Rd crossing Buck Creek, more climbing. Another 400 feet or so in a couple miles to Larch Mtn. Rd. Stay on Larch Mtn. Rd for about 1/3 mile, then turn left onto Brower Rd. First time riding this road. This 2 mile segment starts with some rollers, then a short downhill to the Haines Rd. intersection, which isn't very well marked and under dense canopy. Haines Rd is a nice, long downhill for nearly 3 miles, until the Latourell Creek crossing. Another 1/2 mile, steep climb after crossing the creek to the Larch Mtn. Rd intersection. From here, it's mostly downhill to the historic highway, past Women's Forum, through Corbett and down to the Stark St. bridge. Opted to do some extra miles by riding through Troutdale, then on the new bike path near the Troutdale airport. The path comes out at Chinook Landing Park. Returned on the bike path, then looped back to Marine Drive via Sundial Rd. Finish by riding on frontage road back into Troutdale and past Glen Otto Park.
