Another route taken from RideWithGPS. An extended version of the covered bridge ride. This ride starts in Stayton, at Pioneer Park, with a bonus covered bridge. The Jordan Covered Bridge sits in the park, but is not part of the route. The first few miles crosses the Santiam River then picks up Kingston-Jordan Rd. This section is a steady climb. Nearly 1/3 of the total climbing is done within the first 7 miles. After passing by Mt. Pleasant Church, there is a nice downhill to Highway 226 at Jordan. The second bridge, Shimanek Bridge, is at the intersection of Shimanek Bridge Drive and Richardson Gap Rd (mile 15). The original Covered Bridge Ride hits this bridge from the north. The next 10 miles is a nice flat spin on Richardson Gap Rd, then onto Larwood Drive and the third bridge at Larwood Park (mile 23.4). The route takes Fish Hatchery Dr. to Highway 226, continues west on 226 to Crabtree Dr. and into Crabtree. Bridge 4 (Hoffman) is on Hungry Hill Rd, a couple miles before hitting Highway 226 again. There is a short climb here, then a downhill and nice cruise into Scio. The route creator decided to do a little loop through town to hit a bike-path covered bridge that crosses Thomas Creek. Bridge 6, Gilkey is at mile 43.5, doing the reverse of the original Covered Bridge Ride. The final 12 miles goes through West Scio, with a nasty, short steep climb on Shelburn Rd. The last few miles cuts off busy Stayton-Scio Rd and uses River Dr, a one-lane quiet road, back to Stayton-Scio Rd, across the Santiam River and back to the park.
