02/03/18 Art Loeb Lowes to CatGap Chip

We parked at Lowes, crossed 64 to enter pisgah forest via the crushed gravel path that follows the river on the south side of the Davidson. About a half mile in the Art Loeb trailhead is clearly marked with a sign and wooden platform entrance. The trail juts off the path to the left and goes sharply uphill. This was a long, strenuous hike, climbing uphill for several miles. We ate lunch on the top of Hickory Knob on the return after following Art Loeb to Cat Gap intersect and turning around.
