A more challenging ride from Belgrave to Lilydale via Emerald, Gembrook, Kurth Kiln and the Warburton Trail. Train-based using the Met at the start and finish. We will do morning tea at Emerald, lunch stop at the lovely Kurth Kiln picnic area, and return via Woori Yallock and the Warburton railtrail. This is a ride that demands a higher level of riding ability in the hills, comfort with a variety of gravel roads, and the ability to carry some food for lunch and basic tools for the bike. The ride distance is 75kms, and we will be aiming to maintain an average speed of 15-18kmh. The hilliest part of the ride is in the morning; the afternoon is more open with easier grades. The traffic levels generally will be low-moderate, with the quiet Beenak Road being a highlight. Bring tools, spare tube, pump, money, phone, MYKI, bike lock, wet weather gear if raining. (See pages for suggested tool kit lists). Meeting place will be in Belgrave. The 8.06am train from Flinders Street will get you out to Belgrave at 9.32am. We will meet this train.
