Started out the day with all you can eat buffet and loaded up our bags with donuts, croissants and hard boiled eggs. Started the long climb right out of sesestrie and worked our way along the ridge through the alps. Probably the most rugged and beautiful traverse that climbed and dropped while staying on the same ridge line heading toward Turin. Halfway along the ridge a huge storm approached from the north and we rushed to get down the mountain to avoid the lightning getting closer and closer. Descended in a mountain valley at about 6k vert where we took shelter in the lone restaurant as it started to absolutely dump rain with 30 mile an hour wind. After an hour and a hamburger, because the scrambled eggs had exploded in Jansen’s bike bag, the sky cleared up and we hit the climb up to the summit of col de finestri. We descended forever until we reached Susa, walked a few miles for groceries, and then feasted.
