Marsha, (my beautiful wife), & I hit the mountain today for a very enjoyable and scenic snowshoe trip. It was Marsha's first time on snowshoes and she did an outstanding job!!
We began our trek at the Selkirk Snowmobile parking lot, headed up trail 130 to the summit road and then on the summit road to the Big Springs picnic area. From there we headed straight up the mountain, (which certainly gets the blood pumping), to where we once again joined trail 130. Followed 130 up to Bald Mtn campground. We met a few other folks enjoying the outdoors as well. After a brief chat we continued along trail 130 all the way out to the CCC cabin. Just as we arrived another couple was leaving and they had a fire going in the fireplace for us. We added a bit more wood, enjoyed some lunch and headed out once again. Just as we were leaving another couple on snowmobile took occupancy of the cabin. We retraced our route back on trail 130 to Bald Mtn campground where we then headed down the mountain on what I believe is trail 101. After a little downhill trekking we ventured off trail on a route Warren Walker & I traversed a few days ago. This took us down to trail 100 which led us back to the Selkirk Snowmobile parking lot.
What a great day and a very doable route for those just beginning their snowshoeing adventures!! It's a real blessing to live 40 minutes from this breath-taking State Park. We're looking forward to hitting the slopes again this Friday with a group of friends.
