Postojna to Novo Gorica

The trip from the junction of the H4 and E61 to Podnadnos on the Otošče was particularly pleasant. It was a one-lane road that wound down through a forest into a valley. We stopped for refreshments in Štanjel, a city on the top of a hill fortified in the 17th century to protect the citizens from attacks from the Ottomans. It was a good call because we avoided getting wet, unlike some of our fellow travellers. The last 15km was somewhat less enjoyable because of traffic and because we had to backtrack because a large tree was being cut down and the road was completely closed.
