Sheesh! On day 1, I was puking on the back of a bus, then day 2 started with a critical mechanical! A bungee cord had fallen off my rear rack and wedged between my cassette and spokes while moving my bike around camp. I was starting to think I would have to call a friend to bail me out, but thankfully Justin was there and had a multitool with pliers!! We picked out the little elastic fibers one by one, and all was okay! Justin rode me up to Blaine, WA, where we said see you later, and I crossed the border into Canada. I rode through the car lane instead of taking my bike inside the border station since I felt weird about going into a building with cops. I am stoked that my first time leaving the country was by bike! I enjoyed riding along the water in White Rock, BC, tackled a steep 23% grade hill, and cruised down a nice, flat gravel trail to the ferry. Boarding was a bit confusing, but I managed to follow the other cyclists. A fellow bikepacker returning from Europe recommended heading to the ferry cafeteria quickly to avoid long lines for snacks, and I was happy to be making new friends!
