This was my first ride around Waterfall Glen. Of course, I picked a cold and dreary day to check it out, but it was pretty fun just the same. Temps were in the upper 30's, overcast, and I got rained on a few times. I made a couple new friends on the trail and saw some wildlife, so that was pretty cool.
If you've never ridden the trails, here's what I learned today. I parked at the Lemont Road entrance, but hey, you do you and park where you want. Thanks to a buddy's recommendation, I did the trail counter-clockwise. There are some pretty nice downhills, which would have ended up being some good climbs if I had gone the other way. There is still some climbing to be had going this direction, but there would have been more the other way.
The entire official trail is packed gravel and is super nice. There are a bunch of off-shoots, but things were pretty soggy, so I didn't explore too much. From my start, I headed out past the model airfield and continued straight, not the main trail, to the tracks and the large gate. One of my buddies told me about a great hill to climb, and one of my new friends showed me how to get to it. There is a small ride-around to get past the gate and the hill is on the other side. I hit about 28mph going down and significantly less on the way back up, but it was a good climb.
The scenery was nice, but I bet this place rocks in the summer and fall. At about a 40-minute drive from home, this will become a regular route for me, as it is well worth the drive.
