Rode w/ Henry who toned it down to the unofficial short route of the former Tour de Bland, to account for me only riding sporadically, instead getting workouts by hauling a literal ton(+) of sand bags absolutely covered w/ spiders, despite the pouring rain, and shoveling water away from the door to dry the clinic out last week, while Katy & staff Shop-Vacced and mopped inside. This time, going to talk to someone high up in the County and/or Dept. of State Roads, when everything calms down in the storm-damaged community, about the beautician's culvert. Lllooonnnggg story... Quite amazing the caliber of trees ripped out of the saturated soil. Two delays to get by clean-up crews on Waddletown Rd., which was a mess, caused stiffness by the time we started back up. Legs failed me on the 12% grade near the top of Foglesong Valley Rd, & had to walk the last 1/8 mile of that climb, only place where some calf cramps & the big corn on my R big toe made me get off the bike. Wanted to stop & rest going up Big Walker too, but pushed through, motivated to get my hot dog reward. Absolutely gorgeous early fall day for a ride, tree & water damage notwithstanding. 50° & froggy to start the day, so wore a long-sleeve underneath, which baked me for all the ride except the descent down from Big Walker in the shade. Hope I didn't smash w/ the rear tire the 2 large praying mantis females that I saw. Firewood supplies will be running high this winter, might be a mildly lucrative thing if not kept by the people cutting it up, except for the law of supply & demand. And the fact that all the wooly worms I saw were almost entirely orange, so they say not gonna be that cold to need it all.
