Solitaire rest day - Agama Lodge

Despite my reluctance to leave the comfort of Solitaire, Rocky and I set off just after 9am—highly caffeinated and fully fueled—heading towards Sesriem on the C19.
I also discovered the iOverlander app, which turned out to be a game-changer for navigating remote areas like Namibia. Packed with user-generated points of interest (POIs)—campsites, water sources, mechanics, and essential services—it gave me the confidence to plan my water needs and daily requirements with precision.
Today’s wildlife was incredible! We were greeted by six majestic giraffes as we left camp, followed by small herds of zebra and gemsbok, the iconic desert antelope of the Namib.
The common weaver bird is a fascinating sight in the Namib Desert, known for its intricately woven nests that dangle from hardy trees. These small birds are incredible engineers, creating massive communal nests that provide shade and shelter from the intense desert sun and predators.
My own adaptability was tested once again on the glaring white gravel roads, battling thick sand and relentless corrugations. I found myself weaving from side to side, searching for the best line to avoid the sand traps and bumps.
The lodge sits next to the Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park, and the public area was bustling with about 20 warthogs roaming around. Thankfully, I managed to keep Rocky away from them—an encounter wouldn't have ended well for him!
Agama River Lodge offers 40 rooms with air conditioning, separate bathrooms, and patios. Some even feature a starry sky bed on the roof for those who want to sleep under the stars. I spent the afternoon unwinding by the infinity pool with chocolate milkshakes and soaking in the stunning sunset views of the Naukluft Mountains.
The only downside? The busloads of Chinese tourists. After days of desert solitude, I missed the quiet reflection that had become my daily rhythm.
