This was my second race in the rain. My glasses got so bad I couldn't see a thing and it got dangerous so I took them off, then I could see! But just after I took them off the rain slowed to a drizzle. The race was nice and safe, by the way the race went on you would never know it was raining. The pace was no different if was dry or wet, the race started slow then it exploded for about 10 miles this processed dropped all but the contenders which like 25 racers. As expected there were many attacks but buy only a few racers from teams that were all up front. I actually had a good race even though I didn't have a good warmup. Since the first few miles were gentle I got warmed up in the race. I think the pace was gentle only because not one knew what to expect but once everyone noticed we weren't slipping and sliding the pace took off. I followed my pre-race plan pretty good all the way up to the end. I forgot about the road for the last 4 miles you can't pass and whatever position you are in you are stuck. I stayed in the top 10 for most of the race and went up to the top 4 a few times not on purpose. I had no intentions of pulling and at one point when there was an attack I went with it and was moving up into the top 4 and they started to rotate and I didn't want to jump in the rotation so I sat back and let the rider that pull off get back into the rotation in front of me. As they started the rotation one of the racers slowed it down so that the peloton would catch back up. I guess this would have been the time to do an attack but it was too far out to attack unless I knew there would be at least 3 other strong racers going with it. Going into the sprint I was behind the sprinters that I thought would launch but they were boxed in too. Being behind them I missed an opportunity that could have gotten me up further as i was originally on the wheel of the Demitri the racer that won the sprint. I didn't know he was that fast my bad. he could have launched me into a hell of a finish. Since dropped off his wheel to get behind two other great sprinters I got boxed and was in about 14th on the sprint start. I was also in too large of a gear and had to drop it down loosing valuable time and speed. I ended up moving up to 8th. I thought I had 6 or 7 but two guys on my far right were in front of me. All in all it was a good race my best finish so far. My interval training is working, I will need to increase the intensity soon too. My back and left knee only hurt a little during the race, I had more issues with my hamstrings and forearms tightening up. I think between the chiropractor, the inversion rack and back machines it is finally getting better. I know when I can get the lower back just above the hip to move my back will feel much better. I hasn't moved in months and it feels like it is almost ready to move.
