Today's weather was cool, with heavy winds from the North West. I decided I wanted to go to Keene n Back, and see if my legs would allow me to go further, Alpine Forest and beyond. The legs were a bit heavy to start, but I was going into a strong headwind on my way out to Keene. I was having to keep my patience in check, as I made it to the base in slower than average time. I spared no time to return on the climb. The legs felt better. The wind was also on my back. I kept in mind that I needed some matches for later. So, no redlining for much more than a few seconds. I ticked over the landmarks and made my way to the summit. The legs were feeling good. I headed to the mail locker and swapped out bottles. I headed out to OTR. The legs were warmed up. So, they were passed the sluggish phase by the time I made my way through OTR. I stopped at the juncture and swtich music modes on my walkman. I headed to Banducci. The wall is always a chore. On the positive side, I'm liking the cleat position change. The Alpine forest was (relatively) enjoyable. Or, should I say within my comfortable limits. Suffice it to say, I had a generous tail wind. The speed bump landmarks seemed to go faster than normal. I was near my limit on the last one. After making it through the Alpine Forest, I made my way up to the Banducci summit. I ate 75% of my power bar. I hydrated, caught my breath, checked my provisions and then headed downhill. I kept thinking about the return, as it would be mostly ridden with tailwind currents. I was more cautious than usual, as the wind was more turbulent than normal. The return through CV was enjoyable. I was in the aid of the tailwind, with a few brief moments in a cross wind. The last climb felt good. (for the most part). It was at this point that I felt some ailments. The left quad developed a sort of cramping. I've never felt this before. My right knee was complaining. I knew that they were mitigate-able. The quad cramping ceased after about 5 to 7 minutes. The knee soreness subsided after 10 minutes (when I reached the summit). My right hand was numb on a few occasions. After reaching the summit, I consumed what was left of my power bar while on the bike. Route 202 was horrible. There was a lot of traffic from behind. I ended up sprinting to the intersection. From there, it was the usual push over Mariposa and then home. Concentration felt good. Some gremlins on the way down to Keene. Otherwise, benign. Balance and form felt good. Ailments, left quad hints of cramping, right knee soreness (mild), and right hand numbness. Gear is working well, but the GoPro has been "ghost starting". I was able to record the ride in its entirety.
