JUST MONKEYING AROUND Bernie's ride, with seven followers. Off we go in the oppressive heat and significant tail wind, up Chandlers Hill. I do my best to confuse my Garmin by going off piste through Black Park, but I hear no voice insisting "Turn around when possible." Dogs are out in force today, joining their owners in blind indifference to our rights of passage. By Stoke Poges I manage to placate my electronic guide by rejoining the route she has so faithfully been following. After elevenses at Sunrise Cafe, Burnham, both Iain M and Tim J leave us. Was it something I said, or didn't say? We carry on in the direction of the A4, and my GPS throws me a curved ball as if to say "Gotcha" for my previous disobedience.. Through Bray and Paley Street, we arrive at our lunch stop, The Royal Oak, Knowl Hill. The service is the usual high standard, and the views from the garden quite impressive. The return journey along the cycle way is of course into the wind. It now becomes apparent how much assistance we were getting on the way to lunch. Continuing our journey past Bray, we stop on the bridge at Monkey Island to admire the Thames and it's craft. It's an opportunity for a photo. You don't get many of those on one of my rides, so saver it fellow Loiterers. Not sure who the little fella in grey is, must have been a passing tourist. Our tea stop is just around the corner at Dorney Court. It is a chance to sample tepid soft drinks that don't quite slake the thirst. As Lilo and Chris depart, the remaining four of us get a nice coating of dust on our bikes from the track running alongside the JubIlee River. I like that route, it gives me a chance to test my skills by gliding through the metal barriers without crashing into them. There were no clangs or cries of anguish from my followers either. I am mightily impressed. At Upton, John Mac leaves us for home, while the rest of us proceed through Langley, Trenches and Iver. The parting of the ways is at Cowley. In spite of the over 30 deg heat, I didn't suffer as much as usual.
