Following on from the Val Louron-Azet stage (also available in our app), we start this epic climb in Saint-Lary-Soulan with a 2km warm-up. It starts with about the first 7km of Pla d'Adet, which has also featured in past editions of the Tour de France. Like the Azet, this climb also starts with some serious grades in the first few kilometres before mellowing out a bit after the village of Soulan. The second part is on the newly tarmacked climb to the Portet which used to be all gravel. It’s a fairly sustained climb with little to no rest, but also little in the way of seriously steep terrain either. This climb was used for the first time in the Tour de France in 2018, filmed just a few days before the stage in boiling hot conditions.
