Day 1 of our Istanbul to Lisbon tour A real mix of cycling. Started off along a dual carriage which was a little hairy with busy traffic racing past you, quietens passed the airport, but then you go on to the D100 to get out of Istanbul. The middle 3 lanes are a motorway and you should avoid. But for nearly all the way until you hit the country, there is a 2 lane slip road parallel to this motorway which you should cycle on. A little hairy with buses skirting passed you and stopping suddenly to pick up people, but this is the best way we could find out of Istanbul. Some big climbs and also a couple motorway junctions you have to take a lot of care crossing the slip road on. Some impressive views at the top of the hills. Unfortunately my Garmin failed (or perhaps I forgot to switch it on.. :) ) half-way through. But it is easy follow the D100 route.
