This ride is a modified version of the now-defunct Cherry of a Ride 40 mile route. Started from the Discovery Center instead of St. Mary's Academy, which adds 3.5 miles to the original route. Ride east through city center then continue east on old Highway 30. The road becomes State Ave. at the 30/197 interchange. State Ave. becomes Fifteen Mile Rd. Stay on Fifteen Mile Rd until the junction for Eight Mile Rd. Stay straight on Eight Mile Rd. This follows Eight Mile Creek past farms and ranches. At mile 13 is the Emerson Loop cut-off road and the serious climbing. The first chunk is 650 feet elevation gain over 2.2 miles, at a 5-7% grade. Nothing too daunting. There is a little relief then a couple more short hills until just past the Ward Rd intersection . Finally, a long downhill to the Davis Cutoff Rd. The route goes left, staying on Eight Mile Rd, until the Highway 197 intersection (mile 24.75). The return follows Eight Mile Rd back to State Ave and then the east part of town. Continue west through city center to Webber Rd. Go right at Webber Rd. This goes to the port area and eventually picks up the Riverfront multi-use path. Continue 3.5 miles on the path back to the Discovery Center. Opted to add a short 2-mile out-and-back toward Rowena before ending the ride at the Discovery Center.
