Day #2 - Portland to Astoria

Part #2 of the ride to Astoria. Hopefully you bought some food in Vernonia because there is very little on this section. The Birk might be open for lunch (a tiny little roadside pub). There is water/flush toilet at the Jewell Elk Reserve. And there is a little store in Olney about 100 meters past the turn you make onto Young River Road. Pavement is very good the entire way and traffic should be light. If you find yourself really hurting after the climb out of Jewell, you can continue straight through Olney and avoid the Youngs River Road turnoff. The road will be a little flatter and a couple of miles shorter. But there is no bike lane to speak of and traffic will be much greater.

  • TCX History

    Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

    Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
