A great ride from Pacific City back inland towards Portland. This route avoids 101 to the greatest degree possible (which is awful in this area). The last services are at the Shell station at Beaver when you leave 101. You're well advised to drink what water you can and restock as you face a lot of miles and a lot of climbing. Nestucca River Road had a major closure when we rode through (nothing could get by) so we had to use the detour up Bible Creek Road and Bald Mountain Road. The detour is fully paved (really good pavement for the most part) and absolutely beautiful. Most of it is a single lane of asphalt, like riding up a driveway. But the detour is challenging and adds about 5 miles and 1,000 feet of climbing to the route (as opposed to taking Nestucca River Road all the way). When you reach the top at Spencer Peak, you have some screaming descents. There are a few rollers to get over, but it's a quick hour ride into Carlton. For the most part, you'll be out of cell range once you leave 101. But you'll reacquire when you hit the turn from Bible Creek to Bald Mountain and again near the very top of the climb at Spencer Peak.
