This is another Portland Velo route. Start from Hondo Dog Park near Ron Tonkin field. The first 5 miles is a warm-up out to near Helvetia Tavern. The route turns right at Phillips Rd about 1/2 mile before reaching the Tavern. The next couiple miles are a series of rollers. The serious climbing begins at Old Corneilius Pass Rd, There is a short, steep climb to Rock Creek Rd. The 4.5 mile Rock Creek Rd segment starts out with a short downhill then generally flat. The next couple miles consists of gentle climbing. A long, steep climb begins at a hairpin turn near Van Raden Reservoir. There is a short, steep hill on Elliot Rd, just before reaching Skyline Blvd. Total climbing to this point (12 miles) is close to 1500 feet. A long descent on Beck Rd is a welcome break from the climbing, for now. There is a 1.2 mile steep climb on Beck Rd to the intersection of Johnson Rd. This road connects back to Skyline Blvd, with another gradual climb to the Moreland Rd turn and Sky Ranch Stables (mile 17.9). Then it's a lengthy descent on Moreland Rd to Dorland Rd. Turn right onto Dorland for more downhill. The final 20 miles covers familiar territory, riding into North Plains then crossing Highway 26 on Dersham Rd and continuing to St. Francis Catholic church just before Roy Rd. Then it's onto Wren Rd, passing the Target shooting range to Leisy Rd and into Glencoe. The route-maker did a nice favor and put the route on residential streets to reach NW Evergreen Parkway, instead of riding busy Glencoe Rd. The last 4.5 miles covers Evergreen Parkway to 59th and back to the dog park.
