A Wisconsin Day Trip ride from Fond Du Lac to Dundee and back. This ride utilizes the Old Plank Road Trail (asphalt) that parallels Wisconsin State Highway 23, and the Eisenbaum Trail (crushed limestone) into Eden. Most of the paved roads are country/county roads with limit width shoulders so while this is a very fun ride, and depending on the day and time of week the amount of traffic will never be too heavy, and my experience is most vehicles give bikes a wide berth generally passing in the opposing lane of traffic. So this ride is a great ride for people seeking to get more comfortable sharing the road with vehicular traffic.
Dundee is a small village but it has a lot going for it. Since it is close to many outdoor activities and the Kettle Moraine State Forest. There are a few really good cafes. The Hamburger Haus, which is a seasonal drive in (opens in late April) is a great place for a burger and ice cream, but bring cash because they don't accept debit or credit cards. https://www.facebook.com/HamburgerHaus/?_rdr

McJuggers Salon and Grill that's next door to the Hamburger Haus and across the street from Camp Dundee Bar and Grill.

This ride was done on April 1, 2025 when the temps in the mid 30s, with a stiff (15-20mph ESE - SE wind) making the wind chills below 30. The outbound ride to Dundee was primarily in a southeasterly direction into the the headwind, which was a great training section, while the return ride to Fond Du Lac was very quick. This is a fun ride and Dundee for a small village has some great options to stop at. The Hamburger Haus is probably one of the most famous and popular stops in Dundee, but it's only a seasonal drive in and was not yet open (end of April). IF you intend to stop by the Hamburger Haus make sure to bring cash, they do not accept debit or credit cards. Today I stopped at 3 Sweets Bakery and Cafe for a Hot Chocolate and Yogurt Bowl, and a little time to warm up out of the wind.
