🔥 Prometheus Ride (Η Διαδρομή του Προμηθέα – Φλόγα στο Ποτάμι και Πέτρα) We set off from Kokkino Chorio, the sky still cool, the village barely stirring. Down to Kambia, then a swift roll into Gavalochori—our second pick-up point - where the group gathered under a blue, silent morning. We pushed east into Aspro, taking the Level 4 track that cuts through rough terrain - stones, roots, and rhythm-breaking bumps. This led to the wild descent known as The Roller Coaster: loose gravel, sharp drops, and shifting rock under tyre. Emerging into the olive groves, we followed a grass double track weaving through centuries-old trees - green shadows cast long across the morning. Tarmac carried us through Tsivaras, but the peace didn’t last. A sharp rocky descent dropped us at full speed into Armeni, where we paused for essential refuelling: coffee and cake. ☕️ Mid-Ride Myth: They say Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind. If he had chosen to ride Crete instead of scale Olympus, he might have hidden the flame here - beneath the stone of Aspro, beside the Kiliaris River, or in the heat rising off the Roller Coaster trail. After Armeni, we turned west, looping toward Kalyves on fast gravel. We skirted the back of No Name Hill, climbing and dropping along the undulating ridge above the Kiliaris River—a land still echoing with shepherd lore and summer dust. Crossing into the hinterland of Kalyves, we turned again for Tsivaras, climbed over the saddle toward Gavalochori, then hit 4 Climbs Hill - a sting in the tail that demanded all that was left in the legs. A final blast down to Kambia, then smooth tarmac back to where it began - Kokkino Chorio, no longer asleep.
