So with an Audax UK: Events and Long Distance Rides SR in the offing, a second attempt at a 600k DIY started first thing last Thursday after a mechanical DNF in July.
Having a season's 500k under my belt followed by a road trip cycling up to Inverness, should be fine.
Blown to Acle, Norfolk for a 1200 calorie breakfast and stiff legs from the previous day's cycle to Norwich, early lunch at Smallsticks Café and 125k done.
Grey cloud replaced by sunshine and sharp showers with little breeze to Sutton Bridge via familiar sights in Overstrand, Cromer, Sherringham, Walsingham, Sandringham (despite her text, Liz wasn't taking callers), Castle Rising and King's Lynn.
Across the Fens now to Lincoln on a well honed route of country lanes and cycle paths via Boston where the singular slow puncture was dealt with.
Straggling party goers and dashing police cars with a fortuitous unplanned detour found an Audax special 3am Esso Station first breakfast knowing there was little chance of food before Oundle. Not my best route planning. Some A-roads which would have not been ideal had it not been 4am and some roads that disappeared into nothing or were patrolled by machine gun weilding soldiers (adding 12km). Quick roadside stop and onwards to Cambridge.
Surprisingly lumpy to St Ives before riding the excellent, if monotonous, cycle path on the extensive Guided Bus Network (can't help to think the green fields enclosed will be built upon eventually). Ride with GPS actually showed me a new way out of Cambridge from Stourbridge Common to Stow Cum Quy.
Standard journey home now, no surprises - head down and ride from point to point with ever weary legs. I think long Audax rides are as psychological as physical, the last 10k to home has me with apparently no 'legs' at all despite feeling fine (apart from the nappy rash) some 15 miles before.
600km is a long way solo over two days and no sleep, definitely type 2 fun.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
