This was my first century ride .. an experience I will never forget. I completely underestimated what it took. Major events that occured: - I got there at 750. I said I was cutting it close, but they told me to take my time... so I did. i spent a solid hour+ making sure i had all the right gear packed for this 100 mile journey. - I missed the free tire tubes that were being given away****** - too late for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rest stops so I just stopped at a subway, general store, and gas station. - the roads were in TERRIBLE condition... dangerous even. - 95+ degree heat. I was so dehydrated no matter how much I drank. - went off course twice which caused me to go 40 min without water at one point (before first rest stop) this was the snowball effect to the health issues. - twice I started seeing things... shadows that weren't there. I feel like this was due to dehydration. Dehydration also caused nausea which made me not want to eat and as a result lost all energy. - by mile 70 I had to stop half way up every hill and rest. I refused to walk the hills though. I biked the entire ride. - CRAZY STORM AT MILE 80. this was as it was getting dark. -Had two breakdown moments of complete self doubt. - on mile 96, my back tire blew. Sat at East Troy gas station until my buddy Mike picked me up. He drove me to my car in Waterford, I drove to Muckwanago to Walmart to get a tube. changed tube. drove to exact spot back in east troy to finish 100 miles. 2 miles into that, aero bar pad fell off but I found it on my way back. here we are... 100 miles later, 100% meantally and physically beat down, but damn proud of my ability to push through the pain when I didn't think I could do it. A MEMORY OF A LIFETIME!
