The sun is out and the temperature is perfect. About 60 degrees, winds from the North West. I decided to go to Stallion Srpings. I wore arms, knees, thick base layer and newspaper in the jersey. That held me over for the entire ride. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The climb up the Banducci Wall had traffic mitigation, so I was on alert watching my 6. I recovered on the flats and then made my way to the summit, again with traffic mitigation. I made it to the summit in good average time. Once there, I took a few moments to recover. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. I had to use one of the turn-outs to leg traffic by at the start of the descent. After that, it was smooth sailing to the base. I was keeping an eye on the water grate at the base of the mountain. I wanted to see if my GPS mount moves while running over them. It didn’t. It’s my only explanation why it moved the last time. More observations in the future to figure it out. The trek to SS was quick. I kept the tempo steady. After reaching the entrance, I took a few moments to stretch on the bike and then made my way around the backend climb. I put in a good sprint on the downhill, reaching 40 MPH. Fun fun! I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio. I stopped in town to mix a powder drink with the extra water bottle I had in my saddle bag. From there, I got back on the road. The return trip through the farmlands went quick. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:25 hours. So, I gave up a few minutes on the return, otherwise, good time. The last climb went as planned. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts to keep my tempo going. I pushed over the top and stopped at the summit. After stopping, I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar. I swapped the GoPro camera battery and then got back on the road. Route 202 had traffic mitigation. I had to sprint to merge with traffic on the left turn to OTR. Descending off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and made my way back to Weston. I pushed to the top of and shut it down after making it there.
Concentration was good. I was in the zone most of the time. Perhaps a hint of impatience in the first few miles. After settling in, I was good to go. Balance and form was good. Although, a bit off on the left leg. Ailments were minimal. I had some mild upper quad soreness on the left leg. It was only hinting and never escalated. I had some hand numbness and soreness while digging out of the saddle. Nutrition was good. I fed a banana and some grapes before the start of the ride. That held me over. I fed a Clif Bar at the top of the last climb and drank about one and a half bottles of a sport drink with some water. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, I think I saw one casual cyclist and a family riding their bikes with their kids in Stallion Springs.
