What a strange ride! On an absolutely perfect weather day, my late afternoon ride took me to the Busse Woods Forest Preserve Trail, completed that loop, and returned home. The ride featured two unusual events — a very close encounter with an elk (who came right up to the fence to see me) and encountering a serious bicycle accident, for which I called 9-1-1, flagged down the EMTs, and loaned them my bike. I started riding at 3:47, arrived at the elk pasture at 5:10, left the loop at 5:32, encountered the accident at ~5:42, and returned home at 6:56 p.m. Skies were sunny with temperatures of 74 - 69 with light ESE winds. I wore bib shorts, SS old red jersey, and Giro gloves.
