The most beautiful ride of the trip so far!! We got up into the foothills of the mountains and had some incredible panoramic vista views. Everyone was out gardening, colorful beehive boxes everywhere and in every meadow (there were lots) were deer blinds—tall little huts in the trees for hunting. The wildflowers are popping off and we biked through countless adorable farm towns with churches and houses in earth tone colors, worn by the sun and time. The roads are so good, paved with nice continuous bike lanes even in the smallest and most remote towns! We biked toward the mountains and gained some elevation. The tide was challenging in some areas, including one where we had to walk our bikes. The grade was fine but it was just a looooooooong uphill and our legs are not used to this yet. There was a little pub at the top of the biggest hill. The cherry trees are blooming and snowing their pinkish white petals into the air. The views weee phenomenal and there were very few cars in the roads. We got some sprinkles of rain and stopped at a castle from the 12th century. There were no signs, no areas telling you where or how to go like there would be in the US and no ways to make it more safe (you just had to use common sense to not get hurt). We fell in love with Radovljica immediately. Our hotel is a 500 year old house stay, a woman named Oli and her husband who was a potter live there. He has Parkinson’s now but his art is everywhere and we slept in his studio. It was the most beautiful place to lay our heads. We visited the apiary museum and bought some mead and then had dinner at the 1-star Michelin restaurant 10 steps from our sobe. The food was great but the service was not. We had a lot of fun. My fav dish was the trout with yogurt and basil oil and roe, Brian’s was the sweetbreads.
