I had a [very civil] 10 minute conversation with a guy in the silver pickup. Highlights: 4. [Starting off with an old favourite (paraphrasing).] " I've seen cyclists do bad things". [Ok - I've seen drivers do bad things too. So what should we do about it???] 3. "It's dangerous to ride on the roads - there might be someone not paying attention and using their phone - maybe you shouldn't be riding on the road." [Ok. Thanks for your concern about my well-being - I'll take it from here.] 2. "When drivers have to pass you, they have to slow down to do it and that takes time." [Oh, the irony in pulling off the road to talk for 10 minutes about that topic!!!] 1. And the number 1 topic (and it's a classic!): "I pay taxes to Elgin County to build the road and cyclists shouldn't impede traffic on those roads". [You really think Elgin County pays the full cost without any Ontario money?] The other irony was him driving slowly while talking to me through the open passenger window and holding up 3-4 cars behind him as he did it. I eventually told him to meet me in the Shaw's lot to continue the discussion. Well at least it was a well-mannered, civil discussion.
