Extreme...ly road heavy! ๐
This weekend's ride is a gravel ride but it's 80% road/20% dirt. I've never done a dirt ride with such a high percentage of road before so today I wanted to see how it would feel on my "gravel bike" (Epic EVO). I've done pretty epic gravel rides on it before but always with a higher percentage of dirt vs. road.
Today's route originally was right around tomorrow's ratio. Natalie and Kira were on their gravel bikes but Kira's Di2 battery died with her derailleur stuck in the middle of her cassette. Robin showed up but she was on a road bike. We had all the extremes.
We had to cut some dirt because Kira didn't have low enough gears for the climbs. In fact, her and Natalie ended up doing the Ralston Bike Trail while Robin and I did Sheep Camp Trail.
Towards the top, just as a lizard ran across my path, Robin yelled, "Snake!!!" I naturally had tracked the lizard off to the right and didn't see any snake because it was on our left. It was a pretty big rattlesnake! It was in a pretty defensive posture plus I was passing it when I first saw it so I wasn't able to get a photo of it.
The idea was to go to Devil Canyon Brewing Company for root beer and the entertainment. I personally found it way too loud and sunny. The root beer was really good though. They had food trucks but they all had long lines. I wasn't sure if people were getting food or not but I wanted some pizza so I stood in line at Mozzeria.
Unfortunately, no one else got food. Not only did I have a long wait in line, I had a longer wait for my pizza. Before I got it, Robin had to go and just after I got it, Kira and Natalie had to go.
On the way home, I decided to add some more dirt. It always nice to finish with some singletrack descending.
Not sure what I'm going to do for tomorrow's ride. Riding the Epic EVO was fine but I'd rather not ride the extra 20+ miles of road. I might drive to the start of the dirt and do 20 extra miles of dirt instead.
