Well, we made it safely to Vienna, and successfully navigated our way to the hotel in Linz, totaling some ten or eleven hours of transit. Today’s ride was pretty easy for the most part. Unfortunately, the last eight kilometers or so proved very arduous, with a long, steep climb up to the hotel with gradients topping out over EIGHT PERCENT!! Ride With GPS actually reported a max gradient of over 17.2%! We were also uncertain as to the exact location of our accommodation and climbing without a definite destination in mind is never very pleasant. I will have to become more involved with the navigation as the routing vagueness of today’s ride was somewhat unsettling. For the most part, the scenery was nice, very reminiscent of upstate NY, with rolling hills far to the north and south. At least we dodged the rain showers, and under broken clouds and sun, were blessed with a cross tailwind of 15-20! With temps struggling to make it out of the 50s, it was decidedly chilly save for the last few arduous miles climbing up to the hotel.
