THE ROUND BUSH BY A ROUNDABOUT ROUTE Bernie's ride. I have only two takers , Lisa E, and a new bloke called Steve. Today's long ride has been "stitched" together from several others including one of Margaret's. Twelve and a half miles later we arrive at our elevenses stop, The Moon & Sixpence, Hatch End. A familiar sight greets us, Margaret's bike. "What took you so long" she says. "I decided to add a few extra miles", I explain. After leaving we encounter the first drops of rain, which end in a downpour by the time we reach Bushey. This continues all the way to The Round Bush, Aldenham, our lunch stop. The food is served promptly but even after lunch we are in no hurry to leave until the weather clears. Unfortunately my sodden gloves refuse to fit my hands, so Steve very kindly lends me a pair of his. At least he has had the presence of mind to bring a spare pair. Margaret takes the helm back along route 6 through Watford, leaving us just before the start of the Ebury Way. At Rickmansworth, Steve heads for the station. Lisa and I head back along the Colne Valley to Uxbridge and beyond. Luckily the weather holds for most of the return journey.
