Perfect temps for riding, I told a buddy that I was going to get my MTB tuned up to ride, so I did. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I haven't ridden it in over 8 years so chain needed som work as did the shifters. The lights I had on it were no good, tires were good. I can't believe how narrow the rims are for the width of tires... Since it got late, my back was really bothering me, I took the bike for a short ride on a sandy road and then into a sandy path thru the woods. I felt as if this was my first ride ever on a MTB. I had the hardest time clipping in. I got to the sandy road which was wet from the rain today, thinking this would make things easier. I was all over the place, neatly crashing several times all within 1 mile. I go to the end of road turn around and took another way back. It was dark and the light I hooked up was not doing much! I was a little better, I noticed I had too much weight on the front wheel like I was on a road bike, this caused the wheel to dig deeper into the sand. I make it out of the woods and off the sand. I now headed to another single track path cut by motorcycles and small quads. Back into the woods I go, up and down the whoopy doos. Dodging the pbig puddles I take a path I never been down, big mistake. I get to a spot that it had a big drop off and it was pitch black my light not giving much of sight line. So I stop before going down into the abyss. I go back make a wrong turn into another drop off, I tried to turn before it and started to loose my balance trying to unclip, no luck I got down head first, luckily it was deep soft sand, feeling stupid, pick myself up turn the bike around walk up the little incline. I decide to head back home, too dark can't see anything. I was thinking it would be easy peasy, I missed a turn somewhere and was now make my own path thru bushes and uncut sand. I finally make my way back to the path I came in. I get back my house and decide to do the sand road backwards from what I did earlier, since I was more familiar to this road. I hit a bump my light get brighter so I can see better. That didn't last too long, the light dimmed back down. I did the sand road much better than I did on the first loop! The ride felt much longer than it was, I need more time during the day back the wood on this bike before, I venture out witthebh anyone. It was and experience to say the least and it was fun even with soft landing fall. Be safe out there and enjoy the ride!
