Weather suppose to be in the low 60's in Seattle but Mt. Rainier makes its own weather and it is usually colder than Seattle. As was the case today. Wanted to start later to catch the warmer temps so didn't leave Ashford until almost plan. Plan was to do Paradise twice based on the weather and Friday traffic in the park. Unusually light traffic for a Friday and no snow until after Longmire. Soulders mostly OK but the snow banks along the road are over 8'. Staying warm going up but know it is going to be really cold going down and it really was. Carried extra gear but not enough and especially bad decision to leave the balacava in the car. Park gates close at 5 and it was 3 before I made Paradise. Plan was to go back to Longmire and then bike the 12 miles back to Paradise but it was so cold decending that at the Nisqually bridge I headed back up to avoid a second long decent to Longmire.
