Suppose to be the best day of the week for biking but it was overcase and breezy until the last hour when the sun broke out. Need to start ramping up for the Montana ride with longer rides and lots of elevation. Most of the daily rides are 50-70 miles and 3300' to 4800' elevation gain. But Day 5 is 78 miles and over 7000' of elevation gain. Not sure how to get ready for Day 5 as Mt. Rainier bike ride is only 4000' of elevation. Could do Ashford to Paradise twice, which I have done before, and that would get me close to 7000'
The exceptional spin instructor who also is a competitive biker, gave me some info on cadence and speed. Bottom line is to focus on a cadence of between 75 and 85. Let the other parameters go, but focus on spinning faster versus mashing the pedals on hills. So I did and my legs after 60 miles feel better tonight.
Note: I stayed a level 1 today with only a few minutes at level 2 on the bigger hill.s After 60 miles, I still had 42% batter. Turn-around in McCormich woods at 30 miles I had 74% battery left so I used more battery on the last 30. I am betting that my average speed on the last 30 was slower and hence using more watts at level 1
