Played chess with the radar blobs and lightning @ 3-5 second intervals just to the North and west, trying to race home and stay dry, even though hampered by sidewalks and walking lane changes with uneven pavement, to avoid the fresh sub-asphalt tar in the repaving of A1A-N, but with many prayers to the Lord for assistance, I reach the ferry and it had missed 2 trips back over the past 40 minutes, drivers said. Waited and chatted w/ the Jax Transit Authority to no real assistance. Then the sign turned red w/ that message. Can't/won't pedal on I-295 for about 4 miles over the Dames Point Bridge to get home, especially into the teeth of that T-storm, waiting for the storms to end after 9pm not an option. So called Holly for a pick-up for 2nd day in a row, as I ended and saved the ride, took the bike electronics off and partially de-kitted, so the river gnats could attack the face in full force, of course. Within 5 minutes of finishing preparing for a pick-up, red light went off and I heard the ferry blow its horn from across the river. Called Holly and asked her to turn around & go back home & get back inside, got reset, ferry did brave the bolts and took a handful of patiently waiting vehicles and myself back across, and then raced home. And stayed completely dry (well except for maybe a couple dozen far-flung drops scattered about). Although I did have to venture back out in the truck to find the Trader Joe's bag that I had apparently dropped waiting to cross Wonderwood Drive, that I had found on my 1st ride last week, but had forgotten to retrieve on the alternate return route, and it was still there, clean and dry, snagged on a weed, so I fetched it for Katy this time, and it stayed put in the center pocket, until fidgeting and turning to watch for a break in traffic of Mayport Naval Air Station and USCG employees heading home. Can't wait to get back for 2 weeks @ Labor Day to try that finished new pavement out.
