Like the Wine Country Century, this ride starts at the Luther Burbank Center. Luther Burbank was a botanist and a eugenicist, but not a "mainstream" eugenicist, so, um, we'll leave it there. He has a U.S. postage stamp, and his birthday is celebrated as California's Arbor day. In 1931, while visiting San Francisco, he was painted by Frida Kahlo emerging as a tree from his interred corpse, which not all of us can claim.

The Giro Bello is organized by the local chapter of Rotary International, originally the Rotary Club, of which I only ever had a vague awareness. The Rotary Club was formed in Chicago in 1905 by a group of three businessmen. They chose the name "Rotary" because they rotated weekly meetings at each others' offices for the first year. It's now an international service organization that promotes peace and works on issues like polio eradication.

A very enjoyable ride, well supported. Lots of rest stops, all with a mechanic on duty, and a good lunch stop. I like my average speed of 13.3 mph, but there was not much climbing, and nothing steep.
After several days where Santa Rosa got up close to 100°, during the ride it never got much above 80°. Sunny all day.
I felt really good up to about 40 miles. No foot pain, which is unusual, maybe because of many rest stops? After 40 miles I started to feel tired, and by 50 miles I was feeling worn out. But I didn't have any trouble pushing through it.
Around 55 miles, some mild foot pain was making it hard to enjoy the ride. I found a low stone wall with a tiny patch of shade and sat down to rub my feet for a few minutes. That worked, but I think maybe I need different shoes?
It may seem silly to do this ride shortly after the Wine Country ride, with similar routes, but I have family in Santa Rosa, so it's a good destination for riding.
